Las ortesis como analgésicos funcionales en dolor oncológico / Orthotic devices as functional analgesics in cancer pain

Resumen

La rehabilitación tiene como objetivo mejorar la funcionalidad de los pacientes. Por ello, es otra herramienta más que debemos utilizar en nuestra práctica diaria. Los objetivos terapéuticos serán adaptados al pronóstico.
Una ortesis se define como un dispositivo adaptado externamente para modificar las características estructurales y funcionales de los sistemas neuromuscular y esquelético. Se recomiendan por 3 razones básicas: el soporte abdominal, el tratamiento del dolor y el control del movimiento y la posición.
Presentamos 3 casos clínicos, tratados con opioides y una ortesis pautada por el servicio de rehabilitación de referencia. Conseguimos en todos los casos mejorar la funcionalidad y el dolor del paciente.

Abstract

The aim of rehabilitation is to improve patient functionality, and should be another tool to be used in our daily practice. The therapeutic goals should be adapted to the prognosis of each patient.
An orthotic device is defined as a device adapted externally to modify structural and functional characteristics of neuromuscular and skeletal systems. They are recommended for three basic reasons: abdominal support, pain management, and movement and position control.
Three clinical cases are presented on patients treated with opioids and with the collaboration between Palliative Care Home Team and the Rehabilitation Department. In all the cases, patient functionality and pain improved.
